headlines, free email and alert you to new services that we think
have merit.

How do the Channel Engines work?
Each channel engine is focused on that particular topic. If the
site we link to has an onsite search engine, then we can provide
you with direct results by inserting your search term or phrase
directly into their site and giving the results very, very quickly.
It works extremely well to search any site and not have to re-type
the search phrase or keywords. You just click on a different site
to bring up the results! It's very simple and fast.

Why don't some of the sites insert
my term into them and give me the results?
Some sites don't have a search engine setup on them for QuickFindIt
to search with. Or, their search engine doesn't allow us to put
our term into their engine automatically. If that is the case,
then we provide you with either a link to their home page or to
their advanced search page. Some sites have so many options to
search with, that we just point you to that page so you can enter
in your own choices once you are there.

Why don't you list more than 24
sites on each channel?
We give you what we think are the best sites on the web for that
channel. That doesn't mean there won't be better sites out there
- new ones launch everyday. But these sites have been chosen for
their content, utility, speed, and ease of navigation. If you
know of a great site we don't list, please
tell us - click here! We'd be happy to review it and add it
if it meets our strigent requirements.
There are lots of sites, actually millions and millions, that
we could list if we had enough time and resources. That's not
our job. We just try to give you a good chance of finding what
you need, quickly. That's why it's called Quick Find It! We list
only the most appropriate, useful, most visited, best-run and
fastest loading sites for each general topic. Think of it like
a toolbox. You don't have to have every tool in the world, just
the ones that are the most useful. We hope to get you to a place
where you can find it on your own, or point you there quickly.
No one can keep up with all the great resources. We try to filter
out the "noise" and give you very focused sites.

Why are there so many search engines
on the Search Engine Channel? Won't I find everything I need on
Yahoo?
Question: Do you find everything you need at your local convenience
store? You'd probably admit you don't, though it's OK when you're
in a hurry. What most web users don't know is that each of the
major engines only cover about 14-20% of the Internet. Millions
of pages are added everyday, so it's extremely difficult for the
engines to keep their indexes fresh and updated frequently. Besides,
each engine has its own strength's and weaknesses. The ones we
list are considered to be the major engines. They are the most
popular and literally cover billions of pages. We also list other
not-so-well known, but excellent engines that might be better
suited for particular searches. If you hover your mouse over a
site link to read the description, you'll have a better chance
of selecting the right site for what you need.

What does the [b + - ] mean on
the search engine site descriptions?
The "b" stands for boolean operator and "+ -" means that you can
use a plus or minus sign in the search string. If it's listed
in the description, the engine supports it. Boolean-type operators
really give you more accurate, uncluttered results. For an excellent
tutorial (with examples) from AltaVista of advanced searching
techniques, click here. Or print out and use their great "cheat
sheet" as a reference, it really works!

What is the Channel Chat Room
for?
We have setup each Channel's chat room to act as a meeting place
for people looking for information for that particular topic.
If you decide to switch topics, please change chat rooms! It's
a very simple and powerful concept. Help each other find information,
quickly! There's a good chance some one in the room can help you
find the resource you need, or can tell you where to start.

How does the "Engine Only" link
work?
If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and above, you can
utilize this advanced feature. It loads the engine of the Channel
you're viewing into the left-hand pane in Internet Explorer. If
you put in a term and click on a link, the results open in the
right-hand pane. It's cleaner and faster than opening a new window
on a search. This has become a very popular feature for frequent
visitors.

What's so great about your free
email?
We partner with one of the best web-based email providers on the
web, Everyone.net. We feel their speed, reliability, support and
full feature set is as good as it gets for "free". One fantastic
feature you won't find on most free email is the ability to have
QuickFindIt.com email notify you at your regular email address
when you have mail in your account at QuickFindIt.com. You don't
have to check it all the time, and it's available wherever there
is a web connection.
